Canadia Health, Education and Rural Empowerment (CHERE)

To create a community centre for health, education, and rural empowerment to serve the Total Health needs of the unserved and the underserved while serving the needs of others.

Phase One: To be a full-time polyclinic founded upon volunteer health professionals and minimal number of paid personnel.
Phase Two: To be a full-time health centre in partnership with the State of Karnataka by providing services common in a well-run Primary Health Centre (PHC).

CHERE is conceived as a Contextual community centre, i. e., a modified polyclinic uniquely suited to the conditions in Chickballapur District. It is neither a standard Primary Health Centre (PHC) nor a standard Community Health Centre (CHC). It is not a District Hospital either.

CHERE is intended to offer a greater range of services than can be offered by general practitioner (GP) practices. It is designed to offer two types of health care. First, Institutional or Hospital or Curative services. Second, Preventive, Rehabilitative, and Promotive services. The goal is to foster Total Health.

The planned curative services include but not limited to: general practitioner services, specialized services such as ophthalmology, obstetrics and gynecology, dentistry, minor injuries procedures/ nursing, outpatient appointments, urgent care, diagnostics, etc. The planned preventive services include but not limited to: interactive health information, management of long-term conditions, complex needs, community nursing, physical fitness, nutrition, mental health, leisure, etc.
